Rumors of the end of the world in 2012 might need to be put on hold while we sort out rumors of an iPad 4G. While iOS 5 is still in beta testing, some newly-discovered features are leaking out, including possible support for LTE 4G. And while it is easy to link 4G to the iPhone, Apple may have additional plans in store: an iPad 4G.
While this is still just a rumor, bringing out the iPad 4G makes a lot of sense for Apple. The iPad is positioned to bridge that gap between smartphone dominance and the new era of PCs, where the iPad may play a dominant role. And while it might be nice to see a 4G-capable iPad in March of 2012, we may only see the 3G version early in the year and the 4G version later.
But let's not get our hopes up too much. There is at least one reason for Apple to hold off on bringing faster network connectivity to the iPad: an aptly named fourth-generation iPad. While the iPad 4G would likely not be released until 2013, it does have a nice ring to it.
