Do you want to know a secret to getting a cheap iPad? It's not from one of those penny auction sites or similar iPad scams. It's directly from Apple: refurbished.
The Apple Store is running a limited time special on refurbished iPads, with the original iPad with 64 GB storage going for $399. (It originally sold for $599.) You can also get a 3G iPad with 32 GB storage for the same price.
The best deal in terms of saving money is a refurbished 64GB iPad with 3G, which is going for $499. You can also get refurbished iPad 2 models, though these don't have the special "limited time" pricing.
We can expect a similar price drop for iPad 2 models after the iPad 3 is released, but we are still 5-6 months away from that, so if you really want an iPad but don't want to spend as much money, this is your best bet.
