I don't even know how this even gets designated as a rumor, but insiders are telling DigiTimes that the iPad should be released at basically the same time of year everyone in the world is expecting it to be released: March or April of 2012.
I'm certainly glad we've gotten that one straightened out.
More interesting is what kind of surprise the iPad 3 will have in store for us. This is the first release in the post-Steve Jobs era and the first release after the Amazon Kindle Fire has everyone talking about a true competitor to the iPad, though I doubt the release of the Kindle Fire will change anything about what we see in the next generation iPad.
There are a ton of rumors about the iPad 3, and as with any release, most will probably turn out false, but there are some featrues that are easy to guess: faster processors, faster graphics, better cameras, etc. And no one is going to be surprised if Apple ups the screen resolution of the iPad 3's display, though it might be a reach to think the Retina Display is coming to the iPad 3.
But what are they going to do to make us say "Wow!" The first iPad's Wow moment came when they announced the price. Everyone was expecting a price tag around $750 , so the $499 mark for the entry level iPad came as a surprise. But the iPad 2's release was a little lackluster, with many of the rumored features absent and nothing that really blew anyone's socks off.
I think we are due for a good Wow moment.
