Not content with some vague notion that an iPad Mini will be released sometime later this year, the latest rumors swirling around the edges of the Internet point to a September 12th announcement followed by a September 21st release. The September 21st date is brought to us by Phone Arena and the French website App4Phone, who both got the information from an anonymous source working at an accessory maker in China. The September 12th announcement comes from iMore.
This September date also falls into the time frame being offered by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is expecting a new iPhone (and perhaps iPad Mini) in September.
It would be nice to think of a new iPad coming within a couple of months. And it does make sense for Apple. A September launch date allows the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini to take full advantage of the holiday season. But at this point, they are still just shots in the dark. While it might sound like the rumors have a lot of specifics, the September 12th announcement is clearly a guess based on the September 21st rumor. Wednesdays make great announcement days, so the Wednesday 9 days prior to the release is a good guess if that date holds. And while two different blogs reporting the 21st date makes it more likely that the "anonymous source" actually exists, it doesn't make it any more likely that the source is actually accurate.
On the flip side, MacRumors points out that Ming-Chi Kuo has been accurate in the past. So all guessing about the exact dates aside, it's definitely possible we'll see a release in September.
