At the end of 2012, a rumor circulated suggesting Apple was preparing a thinner, lighter iPad 5 for a March release. Yes, that reads just like an Onion report: Apple released new iPad, focuses on making it lighter and thinner. Many iPad rumors have about as much truth and logic as a report from the Onion, they simply lack the laughs to go along with it.
After a brief rumor of an iPad and iPad Mini launching this summer, with Apple abandoning Samsung as a chip maker, the March rumor is back. And this time a new iPad Mini is being added to the mix.
This is a rumor likely to pop up again and again until March passes with no iPad. The summer release rumor will then make another debut and no doubt circulate until it proves false.
Is it possible Apple has decided to start releasing two new iPads and two new iPad Minis each year? Sure. But I'd like to see more than just an iPad 4 being released eight months after an iPad 3 to confirm this new Apple strategy. The iPad 4 release aligned Apple's product line for a holiday release schedule and coincided with the new Lightning connector being introduced to the iPhone, iPad and iPod line of products. It made sense. An iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 in March doesn't.
